Noun and Its Types with Examples in English and Urdu
In this lesson, we are going to teach you nouns and their types with Examples in English and Urdu so that our basic students can also learn this lesson easily and understand the use of nouns and their types.
Noun
A noun is a word that represents a person thing, or place. Everything we can see or talk about is represented by a word. That word is called a noun.
کہلاتا ہے۔noun وہ لفظ جو کسی ہستی، چیز، شخص یا جگے کا نام ہو وہ
OR
A noun is a word that shows any place, name or thing.
کسی حالت یا کیفیت کا نام بھی ہو سکتا ہےاور کسی نا دکھائی جانے والے چیز کا بھی نام ہو سکتا ہے۔ اس کے لئے یہ Noun
ضروری نہیں اس کو ہم دیکھ سکیں، سونگھ سکیں، چکھ سکیں یا چھو سکیں۔
Some examples of nouns
Place: house, London, farm, school, Lahore, city, office.
Person: teacher, girl, nurse, Amjad, boy, Child, Faisal, Shazia.
Thing:
Objects: table, Kilogram, chair, July, Friday, board.
Ideas: love, hate, confusion, kindness, faith, joy.
Animals: dog, cat, lion, crow, rat, shark, monkey, donkey.

Proper Noun
The name of any specific person, place or noun always starts with a capital letter.
کسی بھی خاص شخص، جگہ یا چیز کے نام کو کہتے ہیں۔
Examples:
Holy Quran, Honda, September, Karachi, Pakistan, Amjad, Shazia, Emaan, Friday etc.
| Amjad is an intelligent boy. | امجد ایک ذہین لڑکا ہے۔ |
| We will go to Karachi on Friday. | ہم جمعے والے دن کراچی جائے گے۔ |
| Pakistan is a beautiful country. | پاکستان ایک خوبصورت ملک ہے۔ |
| Honda is a good company. | ہونڈا ایک اچھا کمپنی ہے۔ |
Common Noun
The name of any common or general thing, person or place is called a common noun.
کسی بھی عام شخص، جگہ یا چیز کے نام کوجو کہتے ہیں۔
Examples: cat, dog, mother, father, baby, boy, park, city, book, love, hate, man, table, chair.
| She is a caring mother. | وہ ایک خیال رکھنے والی ماں ہے۔ |
| The dog is barking. | کتا بھونک رہا ہے۔ |
| This book is precious. | یہ ایک خاص کتاب ہے۔ |
| That chair is broken. | وہ کرسی ٹوٹی ہوئی ہے۔ |
Concrete Noun
Those things which can be touched or seen are called concrete noun.
وہ تمام چیزیں جسے ہم چھو سکے یا دیکھ سکے۔
Examples: belt, door, chair, teacher, book, mobile, taxi, sugar, salt, hair, bat, water, money, cloud, eye etc.
| This mobile has good sound. | اس موبائل کی آوازبہت اچھی ہے۔ |
| The door is closed. | دروازہ بند ہے۔ |
| He is a good teacher. | وہ ایک اچھا استاد ہے۔ |
| We should consume less sugar. | ہمیں کم چینی استعمال کرنی چاہیے۔ |
Abstract Noun
A thing that cannot be touched or seen is called an abstract noun.
وہ تمام چیزیں جسے نا ہم چھو سکے نا ہی دیکھ سکے۔

Collective Noun
A group of things, animals or people is called a collective noun.
کئی شخصوں کے مجموعے، کئ جانوروں کے مجموعے یا کئی چیزوں کے مجموعے کو کہتے ہیں۔
Examples:
| A gang of thieves. | چوروں کا ٹولہ۔ |
| A basket of fruits. | پھلوں کی ٹوکری۔ |
| A crowd of people. | لوگوں کا ہجوم۔ |
| A group of islands. | جزائر کا ایک گروپ۔ |
| A galaxy of stars. | ستاروں کی ایک کہکشاں۔ |
| A flock of birds. | پرندوں کا جھنڈ |
| An army of soldiers. | سپاہیوں کی فوج۔ |
| A class of students. | طلباء کی ایک کلاس۔ |
Compound Noun.
These nouns are made up of more than one word.
یہ اسم ایک سے زیادہ الفاظ پر ممشتمل ہوتے ہیں۔

- Newspaper
- Sex-pack
- Daughter-in-law
- Five-year-old
- Water bottle
- Mailbox
- Pickpocket
Countable Noun
The nouns that can be counted are called countable nouns.
ایسے اسم جن کو گنا جا سکتا ہو۔
Examples:
Book, candle, table, store, room, chair, door, laptop, mobile, mountain, ball etc.
Uncountable Noun
Those nouns which cannot be counted are called uncountable nouns.
وہ اسم جن کو ہم نہیں گن سکتے۔
Examples: ice, sugar, water, music, knowledge, sacrifice, food, patience, love etc.
