Past Continuous Tense
This is past continuous tense and in this blog we will deeply go through this tense including the formulas and helping verbs after reading this lesson I am pretty sure next time you can easily make sentences of Past Continuous Tense and use them easily in your conversations. Past continuous tense is used for those actions that were in progress in the past.
Past Continuous Tense with Examples in Urdu
پہچان: اردو فقرات کے آخر میں رہا تھا، رہے تھے، رہی تھی، رہی تھیں، وغیرہ آتا ہے۔
فارم استعمال ہوتی ہے ing کی Verb اور پھر was/were فعل ماضی جاری میں فاعل کے بعد
| I was having meal. | میں کھانا کھا رہا تھا۔ |
| He was teaching. | وہ پڑھا رہا تھا۔ |
استعمال کرتے ہیں۔ Ing کی Verb اور پھر was/were not فعل ماضی جاری نفی بنانے کے لئے فاعل کے بعد
| I was not taking meal. | میں کھانا نیں کھا رہا تھا۔ |
| I was not running fast. | میں تیز نہیں دوڑ رہا تھا۔ |
فعل ماضی جاری سوالیہ بنانے کے لئے فقرے کے شروع میں اگر سوالیہ الفاظ ہوں تو
فارم ing کیVerb لگا ئیں پھر فاعل اور پھر was/were سے پہلے لگا ئیں، وگرنہ was/were
لگائیں آخرمیں سوالیہ نشان (?) ضرور لگا ئیں۔
| Was I taking bath? | کیا میں غسل کر رہا تھا؟ |
| Was he teasing you? | کیا وہ تمہیں تنگ کر رہا تھا؟ |
Positive Sentences
Structure: Subject + H.V (was/were) Verb 1 + ing + Object +.
Examples:
| It was raining heavily. | زور کی بارش ہو رہی تھی۔ |
| He was wining match. | وہ میچ جیت رہا تھا۔ |
| They were getting prize. | وہ انعام حاصل کر رہے تھے۔ |
| He was getting prize. | وہ انعام حاصل کر رہا تھا۔ |
| She was making tea. | وہ چائے بنا رہی تھی۔ |
| You were making tea. | تم چائے بنا رہے تھے۔ |
| He was weeping. | وہ رو رہا تھا۔ |
| She was talking rest. | وہ آرام کر رہی تھی۔ |
| He was asking me. | وہ مجھ سے پوچھ رہا تھا۔ |
| I was telling him. | میں اسے بتا رہا تھا۔ |
| She was going late. | وہ دیر سے جا رہی تھی۔ |
| He was coming back. | وہ آپس آہا تھا۔ |
| He was weeping. | وہ رو رہا تھا۔ |
| She was talking rest. | وہ آرام کر رہی تھی۔ |
| He was asking me. | وہ مجھ سے پوچھ رہا تھا۔ |
| I was telling him. | میں اسے بتا رہا تھا۔ |
| She was going late. | وہ دیر سے جا رہی تھی۔ |
| He was coming back. | وہ آپس آہا تھا۔ |
Negative Sentences
Structure: Subject + H.V (was/were) not + Verb 1 + ing + object +.
The formula for these sentences is as same as positive sentences as there is a negation we have just included not in the structure.
Examples:
| We were not taking test. | ہم ٹیسٹ نہیں دے رہے تھے۔ |
| They were not taking the examination. | وہ امتحان نہیں دے رہے تھے۔ |
| Ali was not playing. | علی نہیں کھیل رہا تھا۔ |
| It was not raining. | بارش نہیں ہو رہی تھی۔ |
| Alia was not sleeping. | عا لیہ نہیں سو رہی تھی۔ |
| She was not sleeping. | وہ نہیں سو رہی تھی۔ |
| The student was not working properly. | طلباء صحیح طرح سے کام نہیں کر رہے تھے۔ |
| Birds were not flying in the air. | پرندے ہوا میں نہیں اڑرہے تھے |
| They were not cutting jokes. | وہ لطیفے نہیں سنا رہے تھے۔ |
| The eat was not running after the rat. | بلی چوہے کے پیچھے نہیں دوڑ رہی تھی۔ |
| Alia was not sitting. | عا لیہ نہیں بیٹھ رہی تھی۔ |
| We were not asking. | ہم نہیں پوچھ رہے تھے۔ |
| You were not helping her brother. | تم اس کے بھائی کی مدد نہیں کر رہے تھے۔ |
| I was not buying pens. | میں قلم نہیں خرید رہا تھا۔ |
| I was not driving the car. | میں کار نہیں چلا رہا تھا۔ |
| He was not driving the car. | وہ کار نہیں چلا رہا تھا۔ |
| She was not praying. | وہ دعا نہیں کر رہی تھی۔ |
| They were not praying. | وہ دعا نہیں کر رہے تھے۔ |
Interrogative Sentences
Structure: H.V (was/were) + Subject + Verb 1 + ing + Object + ?
The structure for interrogative sentences is above we have to put the helping verb (was/were) according to the subject at the beginning of the sentence after that we put the subject then the verb (ing form) and Object and at the end of the sentence we must put a question mark (?).
Examples:
| Were they having a meal? | کیا وہ کھانا کھا رہے تھے؟ |
| Was she cooking food? | کیا وہ چائے پکا رہی تھی؟ |
| Who was knocking at the door? | کون دروازے پر دستک دے رہا تھا؟ |
| Where was he living? | وہ کہاں رہ ریا تھا؟ |
| Were you going back? | کیا تم واپس جا رہے تھے؟ |
| Was he writing? | کیا وہ لکھ رہا تھا؟ |
| Was the dog barking? | کیا کتا بھونک رہا تھا؟ |
| Was she teaching class? | کیا وہ کلاس پڑھا رہی تھی؟ |
| Was Alia making a noise? | کیا عالیہ شورمچا رہی تھی؟ |
| Was Ali making a noise? | کیا علی شور مچا رہا تھا؟ |
| Were you singing? | کیا تم گا رہے تھے؟ |
| Was she singing? | کیا وہ گا رہی تھی؟ |
| Was it raining outside? | کیا باہر بارش ہو رہی تھی؟ |
| Was I playing cricket? | کیا میں کرکٹ کھیل رہا تھا؟ |
| Was she playing tennis? | کیا وہ ٹینس کھیل رہی تھی؟ |
| Was the cat walking? | کیا بلی چل رہی تھی؟ |
